What I've Learned

Lets face it everyone, college means one thing to us all: freedom. We make the decision in high school of where to go based on price range, major, and how far away we can get from our parents. I thought the same thing when applying to colleges. My name is Alyson Battista and I am a freshman at Southern Connecticut State University.
When I first came to SCSU I was nervous. I didn’t know anyone and had no idea what my future held. After living here for a week I am proud to say that I learned a lot about who I am. I think this is something we all go through. Moments of pure terror make us think of who we want to be. This doesn’t mean we are preparing for our future; this simply means that as we are going through these tough choices we are figuring out whom we really are. Decisions like joining the party crowd, clubs, leaders, or simply stay to yourself will dictate the rest of our lives. I learned this within the first two days of school. I found Max and Jared, two boys that instantly became my brothers. Together we get distracted, mad, and have had the funniest moments. We always save time for work we actually need though. Something I didn’t plan on needing to find.
It is the factor of responsibility that lingers over all of our heads. It is something that we all need though. Responsibility to know when to stay in or go out, to take a nap or go to class, to manage our budgets and know what we really need. I expect that this responsibility will grow as we continue on the journey we are taking.
